Our Mission
Governance and Accountability
Transparency and civic integrity as a way of life.
Overview
Mzee Okee served on the Committee on Finance, Planning and Economic Development in Parliament, and later chaired the Public Accounts Committee for Lamwo District. He understood that public money, properly managed, could transform communities, and that poor governance was itself a form of harm. The Foundation honours that legacy by investing in civic education and accountable leadership in Northern Uganda.
Why It Matters
Young people in Lamwo District need models and tools for civic participation. The Foundation believes that accountability is not just for elected officials. It is a skill and a value that can be taught, practised, and celebrated at every level of community life.
What We Do
Civic Leadership Program (Coming Soon)
Training young leaders in Lamwo District in financial accountability, public service, and ethical governance. The programme draws directly on Mzee Okee's career as a model of what principled public service looks like.
Civic Education Outreach
Working with schools and community groups to promote understanding of public accountability, budgeting, and civic rights. The Foundation begins this work at the local level in Lokung and Pangira.
Kacoke Madit Tradition
Mzee Okee participated in the Kacoke Madit peace conferences in London in the late 1990s, engaging in community dialogue as a path to justice and reconciliation. The Foundation honours that tradition of principled engagement.
“He served on the Public Accounts Committee. He understood that accountability is the foundation of everything else.”
